Listy Beta - The things you love, privately saved and beautifully listed

Listy is an app to keep track of your favorite things privately using lists. You can save in the same app your favorite restaurants, movies, books, video games or anything you want.
We are currently in Beta for both our iPhone & Android apps.

I've been reflecting around one specific topic during the last year and i want to share it with you: Bringing people back in control. Companies fight for owning our interests, what we love, what we visit and use, because that information gives them leverage, gives them the power to know more about us, to sell our information to the best bidder, and to the very end, to become us into this $$$. We are not in control anymore, because we depend of those companies for our daily lives, and with each search, favorite or like we give them more power. Now it’s time to bring you back in control, to let you own your digital life, to let you decide freely what to do with it. That’s why we created Listy, to be a tool of purpose, something you can use or discard whenever you want, a tool to complement and amplify you, not a medium to transform you into a product. While asking people about how they save their favorite movies, book or restaurants, we always got the same kind of answers: "I use X app for movies, and this other one for restaurants, but i can't export anything", "I just save all those things in notes", "I have a chat conversation with my-self to send me this kind of things". We built & designed Listy around 2 main issues: * Privacy and control over your content * "One stop shop" app for all the things you love If somehow this words resonates in your head, if you feel identified by them, maybe you will like to try Listy. We are sending invites each 2 weeks to the people that join the beta waiting list from our website, you can signup from there. Even if you don't want to signup, we are always happy to listen to any comment or feedback.

This looks like a dream come true! I love how you display each category in a way that makes sense for the content. I'm curious though... 1. How will the sync work? 2. In the meantime, will I be able to at least backup to Google Drive or something (either manually, or automatically as part of the built in Android OS feature)? Or is this perhaps the way you're planning to implement the sync in the first place? :) I would LOVE to use it right away, but long term, I like to have peace of mind. First, I tend to lose my phones. And second, Twitch erased my entire wishlist after acquiring IGDB, and if something like that ever happens again, I'm done with technology.
Ismael Canal
@oliver_gaspar1 Hi! Sync will work between devices using agnostic sync services, something still on the roadmap as the very next steps. We are also exploring about how to make backups and allowing everyone to export/import information in common formats. The idea is to give people control of the content in all situations
Gail Gardner
@oliver_gaspar1 Handing your data over to Google pretty much eliminates one of the main benefits of using Listy.
Ismael Canal
@oliver_gaspar1 @growmap this will be a totally optional feature and we will keep up high standards for ensuring privacy first design decissions

Looks like you were REALLY inspired by https://haptic.app :-)
Ismael Canal
@sekachov actually we started working on this 1 year ago, so different people attacking similar problem-spaces at the same time ;)

Amy Tang
Super excited to try this! Can you make shared lists, for example, groceries?
Ismael Canal
@amy_tang with the current beta you can make a list using the to-do category for your groceries, but lists sharing has not been shipped yet. We will work on that for sure!

Interesting product, I do have a few questions though. You say the content never leaves your phone, but in my mind this kinda contradicts itself. On the site there are two things listed: - The ability to 'enrich' a list. How would this be enriched without sending the data you type to some API? - Syncing across devices. How is this done without a central cloud? Is this done without internet, so with Bluetooth (because you mention no registration)?
Ismael Canal
@p_latic when you are writing down the name of a movie, we actually need to hit an API for sure to give you suggestions, but then all the enriched content is downloaded to your phone, so we do not know what you have or not. Apart from that there is no need for registration so we don’t even know who you are. Syncing across devices and lists sharing are optional features, for sure we will need to implement some sort of message transmission system to deliver content from one device to another, but we will design it in a way it keeps your privacy at the very top of the design considerations, like for example only using those transmission services for actually delivering the content, then delete it from the service it self. Hope this clear things out!

eagerly waiting to be accepted for the beta!
Austin Meyer
YES PLEASE. My friends and I have been talking about wanting something like this for years, right now I have to use a different site for every medium - goodreads, letterboxd, etc. I don't really want an app though - I'd prefer to use a website. Also, a social aspect would be cool so I can see my friends' recommendations if they want to share them.
Ismael Canal
@austin_meyer We will have a desktop version via a website for sure!
Fran Ríos
Great job Ismael! I've just joined the beta program to give it a try!
