Hey Product Hunt community! I’m super excited to share a useful app that our team has been working on over the last year. We created Laoshi. Laoshi is a tool to help people study Mandarin Chinese words and characters. You can expect: * Choose and study vocabulary lists that will always be at your fingertips. Our pre-made sets have been compiled from all of the most popular Chinese language learning textbooks and resources. Share vocabulary lists with your community. * Create your own vocabulary lists and add as many words as you’d like. With just three clicks, it’s much quicker and easier than having to manually write out paper flashcards. * Practice drawing Chinese characters directly onto your iPhone at your convenience! Leave the pen and paper at home! * Use the spaced repetition method so you’ll remember new vocabulary forever. Don’t you love it when your teacher reviews old vocabulary after learning some new concepts? Laoshi tracks your progress, and allows you to review old flashcards at the perfect time to solidify your progress. * Track your progress and improve your results. Interested in knowing how many new words you’ve learned? Laoshi’s got you covered. In the free version: - Unlimited flashcards - Add your own words - Listen to the pronunciation for each word - See the statistics of all your results, each and every day! More in premium version: - Draw Chinese characters directly in the app - Master Chinese intonation in our specialized lessons - Check context with usage examples while learning to memorize words better, faster, forever.

Hi, guys) I always support any education related platforms, products) of In addition, I have been working\learning with/in Mandarin for more than 7 years already (got HSK 6) etc I am wondering what is the difference between your product for learning mandarin and those other app already available?
Sergei Kondrashov
@cn__katie hi, Katie! Thanks for great question. We make a tool for learning Mandarin words and characters. So we are really different from HelloChinese, ChineseSkill and Duolingua. Before started Laoshi, I tried Skritter (was ok before I decided to make my own vocabulary list and some customisation), Trainchinese (it's a dictionary with advanced tools), Anki and Quizlet. All of them are great apps, but not ideal for Mandarin words. We try to build one now =)
Alice Rodgers
@serglao thanks for such a detailed answer) I also use trainchinese and some other apps from this team (Pinyin, chinese writer)) Alright, I have downloaded Laoshi to try the ideal app for Mandarin words) great job guys!
Sergei Kondrashov
@cn__katie not ideal yet. But we will try our best to make it. Thank you, Katie!

Do you use React Native for both apps or two different versions?
Zaurbek Sundukov
@selivandex Hi! It’s two different native version (Kotlin for Android, Swift for iOS) for each platform. We believe that it will help us bring best possible experience for our users
Carmen Jiménez
Is this app based on the new HSK levels or the old ones? I'm a Chinese student and have used many apps to study, I will definitely give this one a try. 💪 祝贺你 !
Sergei Kondrashov
@copybycarmen hi, Carmen! Thanks for your question. Currently we use old HSK, because the new one is not officially launched yet. But we are ready for it.
Carmen Jiménez
@serglao Great! Unfortunately not many companies and apps are ready for the new HSK yet, this will definitely differentiate you even more from your competitors.
Sergei Kondrashov
@copybycarmen hope to have all HSK 1-9 lists in 2 weeks
Carmen Jiménez
@serglao Awesome! It'll help me a lot because I'm still going through HSK 3. Thanks!
Madi Aslan
looks neat!👏🏼

@whimsyrum Thank you, Sasha
Victor G. Björklund
Great idea. I'm a big fan of Anki and spaced repetition but I can see how this would be perfect for practicing the actual writing of the characters.
Sergei Kondrashov
@victorbjorklund handwriting + spaced repetition = really great combination. I myself love it.
Victor G. Björklund
@serglao you might wanna consider some kind of import from Anki since so many use it to learn chinese. 👏
Sergei Kondrashov
@victorbjorklund already in backlog! Hope to release it soon.
Alexander Nevedovsky
Love this!
Valentin Fokin
Hey Daniel, great product. Why did you come up with this idea?
Sergei Kondrashov
@valentin_fokin hi, Valentin, I'll answer you for Daniel. We have 10 years background teaching Mandarin in offline cources and online, launched and closed https://laoshi.ru, published and still sell studybook for beginners (https://book.laoshi.ru/textbook1), D2C. All 10 years the most difficult task for our customers was Mandarin words and characters. People used to use Anki + Qiuzlet + Trainchinese + Dictionary to learn words + they used to write characters on the paper to remember them. So we decided to make "all in 1 tool" for it.
Valentin Fokin
@serglao got you, thanks for reply. sounds like a solid background , hope you will succeed on the market you choose! Congrats with the PH launch!
Sergei Kondrashov
@valentin_fokin thank you!
Sasha Briu
Definitely great product! Wish you luck guys!!

Very good app. Actually, the best that i've found yet for learning Chinese. Also, they have chinese courses.
Sergei Kondrashov
@b1z0n thank you! Few more tools inside the app for learning Mandarin Chinese are coming this year.
Anton Sergeev
Do you have a plan to launch on AppGallery?
Zaurbek Sundukov
@hackpnz I think in 2-3 months we will finish integrating and testing Huawei services and publish on AppGallery
Nikita Likhachev
Demand for an easy way to learn Mandarin is sure massive, but according to Google Trends it doesn't grow. Do you feel like the landscape is changing as PRC grows in influence?
Sergei Kondrashov
@niketas thanks for your question. Laoshi now is not about easy way to learn Mandarin. It is a tool for learning Mandarin words and characters. We target people who study Mandarin in schools and universities, try to supplement their studies, not to compete. But according to this article, Mandarin Chinese is one of the fastest growing in terms of CAGR: https://www.businesswire.com/new...
Madalina Anghel
As a Chinese teacher I can say it’s a good tool for learning words. We’ll share it with my students and get back to you with more feedback!
Danil Khasanshin
@madalina_anghel we really appreciate your support 🤗
Sergei Kondrashov
@madalina_anghel thanks for your support. We will release Teachers' Channels into the Laoshi app soon. It is when a teacher or a language blogger can add vocabulary lists into the app and share them with her students. A whole course could be added too. If you like the app and consider to be among the first teachers to try out Channels, please let me know.
Madalina Anghel
@serglao I’d be happy to use it!
Viktor Seraleev
