I can't decide if this is the genius next step in our evolution, or totally useless. I'm upvoting just in case

@mmariansky agreed. the demo video left me wanting a tl;dw version. Something that sells the dream and explains how it's going to make my coffee taste better.

@sixside take a look at our other videos maybe? See http://ipfs.io -- particularly the "Distribute The Web" one. They're long, unfortunately. :( Wish it was super easy to explain IPFS in 5 seconds (the closest i've gotten is "Websites that work offline!") but it's tricky. (Try explaining HTTP or the Internet to someone who's never heard of them just as quickly!) We're definitely open to suggestions :)

"The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) is a peer-to-peer distributed file system that seeks to connect all computing devices with the same system of files. In some ways, IPFS is similar to the Web, but IPFS could be seen as a single BitTorrent swarm, exchanging objects within one Git repository."

@emmanuelamber Avatars Tech :D IPFS gonna be one big drive?

Seems amazing. That "Why we must distribute the web" really makes it clear. It's quite baffling that our answer to solve data flow for the most part has been increase bandwidth and faster speeds. CDNs the past several years have improved data distribution but not on the scale IPFS is proposing. Very interesting. I'm going to try this out with my team just for the purposes of project dev collaboration.

@xcast3d Thanks! Would love to hear how it goes. Our go implementation is robust already, and many people run it in production. But please note we still consider it an alpha and we're still polishing it a ton. Let us know if you have any questions! Reach out on twitter, github, or IRC.

Peer-to-peer is the future!

I am developing solutions with IPFS and I find it very versatile with the libraries and modules that are coming from this project. LibP2P and multiformats are important mention.

Pros:

Reliable, Fast and decentralised. Useful with dApps. How the web it should be!

Cons:

Needs always one or two friends to replicate your data, or somebody to pin/host/replicate your content to be available.
