Hi! I launching a product on my own for the first time, and I can't choose the right positioning

I'm a web developer from a big product company, and I have a lot of experience building and launching products inside the company.

Now I ready to launch my own app. It's about generating ideas with AI. There are already some apps like this, but my main feature is that you can choose different roles to generate ideas, for ex: a marketer, an astrologer, a toxic :) etc.

Lately, when I use my app, I feel like it's something more than just a "quick brainstorming app". I really use it a few times a week (at least for testing), and I see that it helps me think more critically. It also helps me stop using AI in a passive way, like many people do.

Before, when I wanted to write a Linkedin post or solve a task, I talked with ChatGPT, and it did almost everything for me. It gives the answer so quickly that I stop thinking at all. This is not right, because it doesn't show my real thoughts. But when I see the task is already done, my brain relaxes too fast. That stops me from thinking for myself.

Now I use my app and only get shorts ideas. After 3-5 minutes, my brain starts to work in interesting directions! I feel like I'm thinking by myself, and AI only gives me a small push.

Now the question is about product positioning. I see 2 ideas:

  1. AI-powered idea generation/brainstorming. It's simple and clear, but also very basic. Why is it better than ChatGPT or any other AI app? Or....

  2. Anti-AI. The focus is that you should with own brain. AI only push a little. This is a strong message, but I think it's hard to use this kind of positioning without experience, especially because the app is still early and not very polished.

I don't know what to do. I feel like each choice needs a different launch strategy. I would love to get your advice.

Hi! Launching solo can be tricky focus on the problem your product solves best. Test a few positioning angles quickly and double down on what resonate most.

Hey Vadim! Really cool concept!

Here’s how I’d break it down:

1. ā€œAI-powered idea generationā€ is safe but crowded. If you go with this positioning, you’ll need a sharp differentiator upfront, probably your ā€œrolesā€ mechanic. Something like ā€œUnlike generic AI tools, this one lets you brainstorm through unique personas to spark ideas from different angles.ā€

But this angle competes in a saturated market, so you’d something to really stand out.

2. The ā€œanti-passive AIā€ angle is more original, but harder to land.

What you're describing is actually a thinking productivity tool, more like Obsidian or Roam than ChatGPT. So the positioning is something like ā€œA tool to get your brain moving.ā€

This gives you space to build a loyal niche, even if the app is early. But you’ll need to show the why clearly - maybe through a short video or animated demo that shows how it works vs ChatGPT.

My suggestion: Position around ā€œAI that makes you think betterā€ and use your ā€œrolesā€ mechanic as the unique hook. And as you grow, you can evolve the positioning once you see what users really resonate with.

Hope that helps! Would love to try the app when it’s ready.

@ha_anh_nguyen thanks for your opinion, it's important to me! it seems I'll have to work in two directions at once šŸ˜€ By the way, the application is ready on IOS, you can search "Ideation - fast brainstorming", but as I said, it is early version šŸ¤“ I'm still updating based on feedback from first users
