Looks pretty cool, can one of the makers comment on how this compares to CloudApp?
Sean Higgins
@blakeyeager First off, CloudApp is a cool tool and if others haven’t checked it out, I would recommend doing so. The main difference with ilos is that we’re spearheading Video Capture and Screen Recording. With CloudApp you can share audio, images, files, etc but their video recording is pretty clunky. So we are video recording and storage solution that works on any operating system (although not Linux just yet =), always works, and has depth of features.

Hi Everyone, My name is Nick and I am the CEO at ilos Videos. Btw me and the team were so excited to Hunted this morning! We started ilos out of a need we saw for a simple and streamlined Screen Recording experience and it's been really cool to see how much people are using it! If you have any questions or comments feel free to reach out to me via email. I'd love to hear from you! nickstokman@ilosvideos.com Thanks! Nick

@nickstokman -- Thanks for dropping by! Just signed up for the 14 day trial. Just curious how you guys feel you're different than say ScreenFlow etc. Also, is there a reason you've decided to go the monthly/yearly model as opposed to a one time fee? Look forward to your answers. :-)

@aboundlessworld Hi Bud, thanks for the question! So the big difference with ilos vs Screenflow is that ilos is screen recording + storage + hosting, all on the cloud inside a single app. I like to make the comparison of Microsoft Word Vs Google Drive. Screenflow is like Microsoft Word because you have to upload your video it to a third party app (like Youtube or Vimeo) to share or edit it so things start to get out of sync. ilos, on the other hand, allows you to easily share and/or edit your video in real-time like Google Drive. Hope that helps!

Duuudes. Great find, I could totally use something like this so making my demo videos is a breeze. I wonder what the back story is on this team?
Sean Higgins
@vid_spandana great question. Nick came up with the idea for ilos while working in corporate. He just couldn’t believe there wasn’t a better way to communicate at work. There are so many situations where it’s easier to show someone something than to try and explain it. But unless you wanted to setup a web conference call, or schedule an in-person meeting, there really wasn’t a good way of doing that on the job. Communication should be simple. This is why we created ilos.

"Record, share, and store videos on the cloud" .. I dig it!
Nick Stokman
@nivo0o0 Actually you can make Gifs on ilos too =) Here's an ilos Gif to show you how:
Helen Crozier
Nice hunt - takes place of the defunct Jing from Techsmith I suspect. This made my day - thank you!
Nick Stokman
@helencrozier Hi Helen, thanks for the comment! The exciting part is that we are just getting started =)
Seth Carlton
Thanks, @helencrozier! Glad you like it. Any other feedback you have as you use ilos is appreciated!

Cool but $172.8 per year ?!! Really ? 😅@higg1921
Nick Stokman
@skylifee7 Yeah we are definitely way too expensive if you're just planning to use ilos as a Gif maker =) But if you want unlimited screen recording, real-time video editing, hosting, and content management inside one app, I guess you are going to pay more. The idea with ilos isn't to provide another free app; it's to provide a premium service to the people that have the need for it. For instance, we have customer support teams that create 300+ videos per month. For them, having something like ilos that streamlines that process and keeps all their content in one spot is totally worth it.

@nick__stokman @skylifee7 I can see the pricing for someone who uses screen recordings a lot. But even the lowest model is too expensive for a guy like me who might do 1-2 screen recordings a month... so I'll be sticking to other tools (i currently have screenflow and jing).

Another nice free solution is http://recordit.co/

I was really excited when I first saw this - I was thinking, finally a Jing-like-tool that will record for more than 5 minutes ( and where I won't always be wondering "did the mic work this time?" ). I'd easily pay something for this (especially if it also used the 70%+ free space I already have on dropbox) But after looking at the site, it seems this has a lot more bells an whistles than I was expecting - not a bad thing, just a lot more than I need. I'm clearly not the target customer, but I do publish 5-20 videos most weeks (usually training content or product feedback).
Sean Higgins
@edholloway good feedback! A lot of our deeper features are around content organization. Our original goal was to just make a super simple recording experience, but we then realized that after you make all those videos it gets really hard to keep them organized and up to date. That's why we took it to the next step of content management. Does that make sense?
Nick Stokman
@edholloway Hey Ed, thanks for the feedback! Any ideas on what core features would be valuable to you? As a product guy, it's always killer to get feedback on stuff like this
Ed Holloway
@nick__stokman Hey Nick - Thanks for asking. Honestly Jing features and ease of use + longer videos + bring my own storage (dropbox) would be perfect for me. For >5 min videos my current workflow is ScreenFlow + Dropbox. Using a semi rational folder structure works fine for my organizational needs, and most of my video is for "internal" (non-marketing) use - so I don't need any editing tools. HTHs.

For me https://www.producthunt.com/tech... is the way to go for easy GIF capture and it's FREE
Nick Stokman
@saijo_george Thanks for sharing! A lot of our current customers are actually previous LICEcap users. Here's a quote from one of them in an interview =) "I used to use licecap, another screen capture tool that my co-workers were using when I came here. When I found ilos, I couldn’t believe how user friendly it was along with the simple, effective editing tools. I switched over to ilos and I don’t plan on switching back anytime soon!" https://www.ilosvideos.com/blog/...

This looks slick. I've been using Cloudapp to create GIFs in a jiffy.
Nick Stokman
Hi all, thought we should do a special coupon for our fans on ProductHunt =) So if you’d like to try it out, you’ll get a free 2 week trial and 40% off forever. Just use the coupon code "producthunt" at signup. We'll probably run the promo for a few days. Thanks again for giving us some love!

A friendly request to Ilos team: for early stage startups ie. broke people ;) any chance you could come out with a reasonable price per video instead of monthly fee? Something really really simple to take advantage of the basic that ilos have to offer. Like screen recording, a few edits, GIF converter and that's it.

Pros:

It is ridiculously simple. I've tried a few other options searching for something cheaper but there's nothing getting close to this.

Cons:

It starts at $250 monthly!

Zachary Stokman
Hi Ana! I like how you used "ridiculously simple" to describe ilos. I am writing you because ilos has updated pricing and it now starts at just $50/month. They have added many new and useful features that are included in the starting package too. What do you do at Starting from Scratch?
Laurent Sabbah
Definitely going to test this for visual tutorials...
Seth Carlton
That's great, @laurent_sabbah! Let us know what you think.

Apparently, this product re-branded to vidgrid.

This is good but we have better app now Bubbles
