Hey Producthunters!
I'm Mason, the indie developer of Habicat
I used to be an art student and worked as a game product manager for two years. Because I love gamification and programming, I taught myself Swift and developed this app independently!
I've been developing this product for almost a year now, and after a long time of use and testing, the current version is stable.
The core functions and features of the app are:
- Habit add and punch card, intuitive data display
- Gamification growth, habit punch card can make the character grow and get gems
- Chest opening function, use gems to open chests to get powerful and nice jewelry.
- Achievement wall with hidden achievement eggs
- Night mode and pixel fonts
- In development: data reports, monthly challenges, cute pets
My opportunity to develop this app was:
About three years ago I read the book "Reality is Broken:Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World", in which the concept of "gamification" is very refreshing to me, the author pointed out that "why are we willing to play games in the virtual world, but often do not have the motivation to do things in real life? I think the lies in the "feedback dirve", many things in reality because the achievement is not visible, the purpose is not clear, the feedback is not immediate and other reasons do not bring us good feedback, while the game is the opposite, it captures our "human weakness".
This got me really fascinated by gamification, and I thought about how many people in the world are doing things that they find boring, like reading, exercising, taking exams - things that may be hard for us in the short term, but will benefit us in the long term, and I thought if only it were as much fun to do these long term beneficial things as it is to play games!
Then I used the Habitica app, which was fun for me with its gamification, but the design experience wasn't very good, and it hadn't been optimized in many years, so I wanted to make a better product out of it, better looking, simpler, and better to use~
Congrats on your launch Mason! Using gamification as a motivation source in our daily lives is definitely the way to go 💡 Do you think Habicat can also appeal to people who are not regular gamers?
@pauline_montay Yes, I want gamification to help more people, including people who don't play games often. The software is specially designed to be simpler and more accessible to those who don't play games
@j_d6 My words might not fully convey the benefits, but I'd love for you to experience it yourself.
We offer a free trial for our product.
Rest assured, we'll continue to update it in the future.
Very interesting idea, I can see your product working as a motivation tool, especially for people who are very much into gaming world. Wishing you best of luck!!
Being a huge cat lover, I couldn't walk away. :D
In the first minutes of discovering the product, I felt upset since I'm not an active Discord user. Then, I saw information about the iOS app and became interested again. But when I tried it, it didn't meet my expectations, so I'm generally confused. I hope you, guys, will make some improvements to this great idea and also fix the localization issues since now, even with the English main interface in the app, some notifications are displayed in hieroglyphs.
