Hi Product Hunt!
Today makers can learn any skill for building a product online — coding, design, marketing — besides one: generating new product ideas.
“Ideas are cheap, execution is everything,” says Chris Sacca. Many makers are living by this mantra, and there is some truth to it. However, execution without ideas or of bad ideas won’t get you very far. You have to have ideas to build a business.
This book is based on my journey of shipping multiple products including Solving Product Design Exercises, OpenStanding, SketchKeys, VeggieMat, etc. They are used by tens of thousands of professionals working at companies like Apple, Facebook, Google, Airbnb, Dropbox etc. From some of my products I'm making a living, others are a complete failure.
I've created 17 highly actionable techniques for idea generation for myself and in this book, I share them with you. This book will teach you how to find problems and opportunities from different sources, such as: scientific research, web search analysis, market trends, your own experience, open data sets, unrelated industries, business model patterns, etc.
I hope my book will help more people to start a business and solve the most urgent problems the world is facing today, making it more sustainable, healthy, and equal 💙
Enjoy!
I've read the early version, eye opening book that helped not just with good ideas but also with a *system* to come up with new ideas.
Thanks @hvost for this, Highly recommended!
@johnchaplin sorry John, you're right. I just checked and Amazon don't even show me an option to put my book on Amazon Australia for some reason. I assume it's because they don't have a printer there (my books are printed by Amazon). You can get a copy with shipping to Australia at my website though: https://ideasbook.myshopify.com/...
@jeffrey_wyman thanks Jeffrey! VeggieMat was my biggest product failure so far (sales-wise) even though all my beta-users absolutely love it 😊 I failed to market it since the audience type was brand new to me and I made several wrong marketing assumptions, but I'm going to try a new strategy new month 😊✌️
Just finished the book and 100% loved it. It is super helpful to finally have a short summary of many different ways to get juices flowing. Had a sweet spot for the Figma shortcuts: such a creative idea!
I really enjoyed this book.
I've spent over 10 years in the entrepreneurial field and still found plenty of tips for coming up with new ideas. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is short on inspiration, it's a super-effective booster.
@charles_miglietti thank you Charles! 😊 I find it irrespecutful towards readers' time to add a filler.
Although after publishing my previous book and learning more about publishing I understood why is it happening — if you're curious I've shared it in one of my articles (just Cmd+F for "fluff" 😊): https://medium.com/@hvost/what-i...
