When should you submit your product on Product Hunt?

A question almost every founder asks before launch:

“When do I need to submit my product if I want to launch on a specific day?”

The truth is: the earlier, the better.

Why?

Because it doesn’t matter how polished your assets are on day one. If you plan to launch two months from now, you can keep updating your copy, images, and videos anytime. Nothing is final until launch day.

By submitting early, you unlock two big advantages:

– You can already promote your teaser page and start building interest.

You have time to notify friends, supporters, and early users so they’re ready to back you when launch day comes.

Bottom line: submit early, refine continuously.

What’s your approach : do you prep way ahead or polish last minute?👇

Personally, I like proper preparation:

– sneak peek/behind the scenes on social media

– build-in-public on socials
– asking for early reviews/testimonials

– trying to announce the launch publicly

– preparing "Notify me" page

– trying to be a part of some videocast/podcast where you mention it

– email campaign sequences for warm-up
– reminding people in DMs and maybe to key PH faces

– talking about the launch outside (in offline), so you are more aligned

– maybe a collab with a hunter

etc.

I love a strategic approach tbh.

And then, some people set everything up 1 day before. 😂

Product Hunt is 100% all about the power of your own network. If you don't have a solid network of followers, friends, and acquaintances that are ready to support you on launch day, then it can be really hard to get the upvotes that you see a lot of products receive.

I typically see advice mentioned where Makers should begin prepping at least a month or two before launch. Why? To begin building that social capital for when you launch. Build your social capital by supporting other Makers, upvote and comment on their launches, then connect with them and ask them if they're willing to support you when you launch.

For myself, I focused on building my network a month before I launched because I knew my current network wasn't enough. I actually didn't finish all my images and video until the day before I launched 😅

@lienchueh Not 100 but 1000% agreed. Many people don’t realize that this is exactly the key: being consistent, connecting with people from the community, showing them that you support their projects. Because that’s a very specific kind of social capital.

Of course, your offline friends might help you, but I’m convinced that most people don’t have friends who are active on Product Hunt. (Of course, I exclude those who are part of accelerators/incubators, they do.) But for most people, the easiest way to secure support is from other founders online who are active on Product Hunt.

Launching soon!

I'm gearing up for a launch in a few weeks and wish I had set things up a month ago. Lesson learned.

@tmtabor When is your launch? You still have time to prepare.
