What would you do better in your business if you were starting from scratch? [Share your learnings]

Not all of us begin from the same starting line. A lot of what we learn happens along the way, and often, it's the trivial thing that could have made a big difference earlier on.

Today, I want to ask a question that might help someone shift their perspective.

Question for established founders:

With the experience you have now, what would you do better/differently if you were starting your business all over again?

As for me:

  • I would start earlier (ideally in high school)

  • I would focus directly on the international market and not on the local one. I don't want to say that I wasted, but... I wasted 3 years with the local one. 😀

  • I would move to a larger metropolitan city where there are more events for meetups & startup events.

  • I would put more money into advertising. (When you work with a large company, only then do you realise how insignificant the amounts so far have been, and that is why the big results have not come.)

  • I would try to be hired by a large company, so that I could learn the megalomaniac process – "think big". When you move from a large environment to your own business, you are able to implement better processes.

Launching soon!

Well actually I am currently in the proceess of starting a new business from scratch after my last one failed.

What i learned from it was that marketing matters, a lot. You can have the best product in the world but if it doesnt get seen by anyone, it doesnt matter.

Trying to focus more heavily on that this time around so I dont repeat the same mistake.

@sahil_khxn True true :D when you build only for yourself, you are the only user (and after some time) you stop using (building) your product too.

I'd focus on solving a real painful problem from day one and validate demand early. I'd also build a leaner MVP to iterate faster with real users.

@raul_richardson With what your product/business did you learn this?

Launching soon!

I wouldn't wait that long to remove from the team people who didn't share company values and weren't putting the work in.
I lost over a month of development time because I was hoping "he will deliver", and I waited to long with ending a partnership with a co-fonder who wasn't putting the work in.

@aleksandra_trueme So maybe the next goal would be picking the right partner for business? :)

Launching soon!

@busmark_w_nika thankfully this goal has been accomplished. With my CTO we've been working together for 10 months now and he is definitely the right person. However, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have a right person in your corner.

This is cool, Nika! I'd love to stay around for the BIG lessons. 😄

@rani_zagita I need more people comment under this post to see their learnings :D
