What’s the #1 mistake you keep seeing on Product Hunt launches?

It’s especially frustrating when it happens to someone you actually know, not just another random launch in the feed.

I met this guy on Twitter a while ago. We vibed. Chatted for weeks.

Exchanged ideas, helped each other, the build-in-public energy.

At one point, he mentioned that he was planning to launch on Product Hunt “sometime soon.

No date, no month, just a general “in the future.”

At some point, he mentioned he was building something cool.

Said he’d launch it “soon" on Product Hunt.

And then… he vanished.

Disappeared from my timeline.

No updates, no teasers, just quiet.

Until today: when I saw that he launched yesterday.

And I missed it.

No tweet, no DMs, no WhatsApp message.

Which means he missed my vote.

And probably a lot of others, too.

It’s wild how we forget to tell the people most likely to support us.

So here’s what I always recommend:

1/ Make a teaser page

2/ Talk about your launch at least a week or two before

3/ On launch day, be present: tweet, reply, DM

Most people want to help.

But they can’t if they don’t know.

I do not know whether it is a mistake, but anonymous profiles irritate me :D

@busmark_w_nika do we have to admit mistakes if they are unnoticed? I usually just write them down in my journal like me to my future me Dear Diary... ✏️📔 ...

This is so true and I’ve seen it happen more than once.

You build something great, spend months in the zone… and then silently drop it on PH, hoping people will magically find it. I’ve made this mistake too...

Now, I treat the lead-up like a real campaign. A few behind-the-scenes posts, a teaser or two, and most importantly, DMs to people who’ve already shown interest. It’s all about letting the right people know you’re live.

Curious, @byalexai, what’s the one thing you see makers overthink during launch week that doesn’t really matter as much as they think it does?

@arun_tamang the tagline - so many people think 24/7 about similar taglines

Much needed, I'm taking notes from this, 100% something I'd do and rue when launch: missing easy votes just because they didn’t share a simple heads-up.

@byalexai On the contrary, I’m curious, what’s one thing you see makers not think about enough during launch week that ends up being pretty significant?

@dheerajdotexe their teaser page

the most underrated asset
