What is the most common use of AI? (Your use + In general)

While having "a scroll time" on Instagram, I bumped into a Harvard Business Review report.

It shows how people changed their habits of using AI (comparing 2024 and 2025).

TL;DR:
In 2024, AI mostly helped in cognitive tasks.
In 2025, AI is used for things related to emotions.

I am attaching the graphic design by Visual Capitalist, and you can see where your opportunity is in building products – pay attention to "New" fields and "growing green numbers".

  • What is your most common use case of AI?

  • Looking at this infographic ('New' and 'Growing green numbers'), do you have any product ideas that could be developed in this field?

I find quite worrying that people turn to AI for Therapy. One key benefit of Therapy is to have human interactions.

@rebecca_meyer It is scary, I need to admit. On the other hand, I have heard that some individuals are afraid of "judging" so it is easier to talk about the problem with a non-human.

P.S.: I use AI to explain things if other people "force" me to read between the lines. So more psychological perspective :D

Hi Nika,

Thanks for sharing this insightful overview! It’s fascinating to see how AI usage is evolving from primarily cognitive tasks in 2024 to more emotion-related applications in 2025.

For me personally, the most common use of AI revolves around assisting with information synthesis, content creation, and problem-solving — essentially supporting cognitive tasks like writing, brainstorming, and research. In a broader sense, many people still use AI for productivity boosters, automation, and data analysis.

Regarding the shift toward emotional applications, I see huge potential in developing AI products focused on mental wellness, emotional coaching, and social connection. For example:

  • AI companions or coaches that provide empathetic conversations and help users navigate stress or anxiety.

  • Tools that analyze emotional cues from text or voice to offer personalized feedback or support.

  • Platforms that facilitate deeper human connection, using AI to moderate and enhance communication.

Building products in these “New” and “Growing” areas could meet significant user needs as people look for more emotionally intelligent technology.

What about you? How do you currently use AI, and do you see any promising ideas emerging from this trend?
