We launched in November and here is everything I want you to know about Launching on Product Hunt👇
We launched AppSave by Appscribed on 21st November. Honestly, it was the most intense work experience. Working late nights, last-moment changes in plans, anxiety, excitement.
As it was our first launch and there were over 60 products launching on the 21st Nov, our goal was to be in the top 10. We were stuck in 11th position. We lost hope when it wasn't going up or down. But at the last minute, we ended up in the 10th position.
Here is everything you should keep on your checklist if you are launching on Product Hunt from the beginning to the end of the day-
BEFORE THE LAUNCH
- Keep your launch scheduled for 12:01 AM PST
- Before the launch, connect with everyone on LinkedIn who is going to launch soon. Getting a LinkedIn premium for that month can be a good idea as you will need to connect with a lot of people.
- Create a community post where people who are launching soon can comment. If you have many people commenting there, you can always reply to those comments and ask for feedback on your launch. For example, a day or two before your launch, post something like "Who is launching tomorrow?" in the PH community.
- Stay active in the PH community and associate your profile with a tagline. Neel, who launched SyncSignature the next day, always associated his profile with the tagline "Guy with the purple background profile" which made people remember him on all social media and communities.
- Get active on your LinkedIn posts. Ask your whole team to stay active on both LinkedIn and PH.
- Get active in Linkedin communities/Groups as well. Don't go and ask for support on the day of launch only.
- Support others, or they won't support you.
- Check out the Facebook communities as well and share the post about your launch sometime before as it can take time to get approved.
- Make connections and support other creators/founders by posting about them on Linkedin.
ON THE LAUNCH DAY
- Product Hunt only shows featured products on the homepage for the first few minutes or an hour. So, it's important you gather as many upvotes and feedback as you can in those minutes as that can help you to get into the featured section.
- The first 4 hours are the most important hours. As PH doesn't rank anyone as per their upvotes, you need to get as many upvotes and feedback in that time. Don't be surprised to see your upvotes going down once that period is over. Because...
- People remove their upvotes out of jealousy. Yeah, that will happen. I advise you to not do that as that can also impact your own ranking sometimes. Be honest with the launch.
- Try to retain at least the 11th position as you get more visibility through "Trending Launches"
- PH will push your ranking down for several reasons. One of them is over-promoting. Another one is...
- Comments >>> Upvotes. Upvotes are important, but you need to ask people to provide feedback in the comments, Try to keep the ratio more than 50%. For 100 upvotes, at least have 50 comments. And I analyzed that could be one reason PH was pushing down the rankings.
- Do not ask for support from people who do not have a PH account. At least, don't do this until the last few minutes. As family members always want to support you, ask them to do it in the last few minutes only.
- Ask for support from the people you take services from. Your SEO agency, link builder, developers, the tools you use, etc. Especially reach out to the people from the tool companies you have subscribed to.
- Whatever ranking you get, make sure to celebrate it with your team.
- Once your are done with the launch, go to all the communities and share your gratitude with them.
AFTER THE LAUNCH
- Stay active in the community. (I know, I wasn't 😅)
- Share your experience with the community.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You will face a lot of problems with the launch. You can always rely on PH support though. They are responsive.
I would love to know how was your launch?
