Is Product of the Day the wrong goal?
Hey everyone 🫡
I’ve been deep-diving into Product Hunt strategy lately, and one thing keeps coming up: high upvotes or “Product of the Day” don’t always equal real success.
So I wanted to ask — what actually made your Product Hunt launch successful?
Was it:
User signups?
Feedback from early adopters?
Press/investor attention?
Just validating your idea?
We’re launching Finden soon (AI for cross-platform search + memory), and while I’ve got my checklists and support team, I’m starting to wonder if I’m focusing on the wrong things.
What surprised you most about your launch?
What would you do differently?
What actually moved the needle after launch?
Would love to hear your thoughts — and happy to trade feedback if you’re prepping too!

You are right that the goal for the launch can be different and it is defined only by you. For me, the main priority was not to get the product of the day, for me it was important what people think about the product. This question is quite flexible but I think it depends on the initial goals.

@ixord Yes true, our ultimate goal is going to be sign-ups, but feedback will be in-valuable!
I think it is okay to have it like an ambition (it is a kind of milestone/social proof) but I think the more important (always at the end) is $ you earned. Gotta pay that bills. (:

@busmark_w_nika Maybe you could upvote our launch today, it will help us pay those bills 😅 https://www.producthunt.com/products/finden/reviews/new
I guess it all depends on your initial goal and the clear objective you've set for this launch. For instance, if you're looking to increase brand awareness, then aiming for the Product of the Day/Week/Month award sounds like a good plan.
But if your goal is to gather feedback or attract new clients, then the number of upvotes doesn’t necessarily correlate :)
