Is Outcome-Based Pricing the Future for AI?

Hey, Product Hunt community! 👋

For years, we've lived by the code of subscriptions, seats, and usage tiers. But as AI gets more sophisticated, I've been thinking: does charging for access or raw usage still make sense?

We're seeing a shift towards a new model—outcome-based pricing. Think paying per successful AI-driven sales lead, per customer issue resolved, or per design generated. You're not just paying for the tool, but for the tangible result it delivers.

It feels like a fairer value exchange. If the AI delivers, the company wins, and the customer really wins. But it also opens up a can of worms:

  • How do you transparently define and measure an "outcome"?

  • What happens when external factors influence the result?

  • As makers, does this model feel exciting or terrifyingly risky?

  • Do you think outcome-based pricing is the inevitable future for monetizing AI products? Or is it a niche model for specific use cases?

Would love to hear your thoughts and any other creative monetization strategies you've seen or are experimenting with!
