How much money do you spend on SaaS subscriptions?
Hi everyone,
I've been working as a software engineer at different companies over the years, and there's one thing they all seem to have in common:
They use dozens of SaaS subscriptions across different departments, and they often lose track of them. Most teams don't really know how much they're paying or how effectively those tools are being used. In some cases, I've even seen companies paying for duplicate subscriptions from different vendors.
A couple of months ago, I dug into some data and found a few surprising statistics:
Companies have over 100 SaaS subscriptions on average
They spend around $10,000 per employee per year on these tools
More than 33% of subscriptions are underused or not used at all, leading to unnecessary spending
In the UK alone, unused subscriptions cost businesses over £1.7 billion annually. In the US, the number is even more staggering: $32 billion wasted every year
After seeing this, I started thinking more seriously about how companies could track and manage their subscriptions better. I’m not here to promote anything, but I do want to ask a couple of honest questions to hear your perspective:
How much do you or your company spend on subscriptions?
How many of them do you think are going to waste because no one’s tracking usage?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. This might be a good opportunity to reflect on something that often gets overlooked but has a real financial impact.
