Do you think platforms like Upwork and Fiverr have a chance to survive under the influence of AI?

Most of the services we used to order from these platforms were voiceovers or UGC videos.

But now, with AI, it’s cheaper for us to generate something synthetically. If other companies think similarly, will freelancers on these platforms have any jobs left?

What is your forecast for sellers on this platform, and also the future of the platform itself?

My reckon is that platforms will survive but traditional creators will have hard times and the sctructure of offerec work will change. E.g. instead of writers there will be AI consultants or similar.

But would like to hear the opinion of someone else. :)

I've been working for years with a company called The Urban Writers, which specializes in providing ghostwriting services to wannabe authors all over the world.

It doesn't work differently from Upwork or Fiverr, as prices are low and authors can choose from a wide range of ghostwriters from different countries.

I must say, since generative AI and ChatGPT started becoming more and more popular, the platform has seen a dramatic decline in the flow of new (and even old) customers.

Projects have been diminishing for more than one year now, and customers aren't returning.

I think the main reason is that now, many people can achieve more or less the same outcomes at a minimum cost with generative AI. Those who were already used to cheap prices for decent services are more likely to rely on AI now rather than human professionals. At least, that's what I think!

Probably, these platforms would have to change their structure or approach customers differently if they still want to be profitable and beneficial for freelancers.

@pamela_arienti TBH, I could see changes in Upwork structures when it comes to offered service,s but I think the same – if they remain as a freelance work platform (that can be done by AI anyway), there is no long-term perspective.
