Hey ProductHunt 👋! We’re Alex, Kumail, Nate, and Phillip, co-founders of Gather. Since April, our team has been working non-stop to try to cure some of the exhaustion from online quarantined interactions. We really miss our friends, and felt that Zoom calls lacked the serendipitous “hallway conversations” you might get in real life, and set out to tackle the problem! That’s why Gather is completely spatial — in our app, you have to be virtually “close” to someone to hear them, which allows for many conversations in one space and wonderful spontaneous interactions. Gather has blossomed into a product that is used for: 🍹 Happy hours and conferences, where large groups of people break off into smaller groups to interact 💻 Remote offices, to work alongside each other and have serendipidous "water cooler" conversations 😊 And much, much more. We've been used for weddings, artist EP launches, university campuses, or just hanging out with friends. So how does Gather work? 🤔 🗺️ Build your map, or choose one of ours! Gather has a wide selection of premade maps to choose from, ranging from a moon pond to a beach side castle. Once you select the environment you want to hang out in, you can… 💡 Place down some objects!
In the space, you can place down interactable “objects” such as whiteboards to draw on, youtube videos to watch together, or even games to play together. Go crazy! 😎 Invite your friends! Simply send the link to your friends, and have them join you <3 we’re 100% free up to 25 users Thanks so much for checking us out, we’d love to hang out with you and meet you! Just come to the special space we’ve set up just for product hunters: https://gather.town/app/nO9uzqf6... Lots of love, Alex, Kumail, Nate, and Phillip

Great product! Appears like a fun alternative to Zoom at first, but upon closer look, Gather has a number of features that appear to be building towards the Metaverse. Would love to see native games, such as Among Us, within the platform with my avatars.

@jeffrey_li1 Thanks Jeff! Have loved your feedback on the platform <3

Hey everyone! Super excited to share Gather with y'all :) We'll be around in the Gather space to talk with folks, and around here to answer questions / feedback! https://gather.town/app/nO9uzqf6...

Really good product, I think is a bit expensive to pay $4 per user.
Alex Chen
@pavel_mazuelas Hey Pavel, thanks so much for checking out Gather! Don't worry — our spaces are 100% free up to 25 people, so we want to remain as free as possible for people.

Just used Gather today for my university club meet-and-greet event! It's so liberating to be able to virtually "walk around" and "mingle" with other students, terms that seem almost taboo in our current times. One of the biggest pluses (in my opinion) is that all participants have control over who they want to talk to, whenever they want to, something that Zoom breakout rooms sadly overlook. The event went really well, people had a lot of fun, and I would totally recommend this platform for anyone trying to plan a chill social-type event (or meeting, or anything, really)! @ makers: Would be amazing if there was even more support for certain (perhaps) commonly-useful objects within the map, such as Clock/Timers, music players, etc. :)
Alex Chen
@fuzzy__elephant Thanks Claire! 100% agree that many more objects would be useful! We're working on it, and glad to hear your event went well.

Your video chats will not be the same with this fun instrument!
Alex Chen
@mikeyeva We hope so too! 🎉

I used Gather to host a work happy hour and it turned out super well! For an event of our size, it was important that we could socialize in smaller, manageable groups while still being connected in a larger space, so Gather was a perfect fit. We recreated our office (with a few extra bells and whistles) using the map editor. It was so fun to feel like we were back in that space and to see coworkers that we don't work directly with. For our summer interns, it was their first time seeing what the office looks like! Now everyone is free to re-use the map for any event. The Gather team was extremely responsive and helpful for all of my questions and I highly recommend working with them.

@paulchoi Thanks Paul :) Enjoyed hosting the office for Flatiron!
Emerson Hsieh

The first time I tried Gather.town was on Monday after the totally ground-breaking Filecoin event, it was an awesome user experience and was transported back to the late 90's with things like the original version of 'Habbo Hotel' ! When I entered the room there was the Web3 visionary and founder of Filecoin @juanbenet and some of his brilliant team. Juan guided us on how to use the room, and we all got into a conversation and sharing stories, which felt very intimate and inclusive in these crazy times. I would love to get my whole company on this as being remote-first we don't have offices and this might just be the thing to pull us all together in one place! Well done guys you all rock
phillip wang
@juanbenet @rus_sellers No way! Our team is a fan of Juan's work. Feel free to contact us at hello@gather.town for help setting up an office space! We have some map templates up, and are currently also making custom spaces for folks.
Anne Lee
Wow this is so cool!!!!!!
Alex Chen
@anne_lee4 Thanks Anne! Appreciate you checking us out!
Mohamed Mezian
Do you intend to implement work productivity tools in the near future ?
phillip wang
@augurisk Yes! We use it ourselves for a virtual office space to drop by someone's desk, for meetings, and to socialize. Some productivity specific features we use a lot include whiteboards and embedded Google docs, and there are many more to come :)
Mohamed Mezian
@phillip_wang3 There could definitely be a market for this, and lots of ideas to build on
Gabe Perez
This is really neat. I appreciate the note left on the desk that takes you to a Google doc. Looking forward to seeing this grow! Maybe if there is a way for us to play Pokemon together lol
Alex Chen
@gabe__perez Haha indeed! Our vision is to one day allow people to do all kinds of interesting interactions on Gather, perhaps even some pokemon catching :)
JJ
All the bells and whistles of traditional conferencing tools, live audio/video, screen sharing, spatial awareness, text chat, etc. but way more fun. I actually came across it while searching for something our team could use to hang out during our "Funday Fridays". It was a big success, so much so that our designer spent the weekend re-creating our office using the build-in map editor. Now the team logs in every morning, sits down at their virtual desks (same place they were pre-pandemic) and begins work. It promotes the same environment we had in the traditional office...collaborating in realtime and with the ability to find an empty room or area for more private conversations.
Alex Chen
@just2jays JJ, it's awesome to hear you've been using Gather for offices! Right now that's one of our main focuses — so glad it's been working for you like it's been working for us.
Kunal Gupta
We at Withfriends used this as our daily office for the first half of the year, and now we've started using it for events too. The format allows you to take your usual meetings with customers or investors, but introduce the team and show some hospitality first, things we're used to from our past lives the real world. It's also just a really fun way to hang out with people.
Alex Chen
@djkgamc Kunal, so cool to hear that you guys are using Gather to host these kinds of interactions! If you're interested, we're working really hard on improving even more on this kind of office experience, would love to chat sometime.
Prosperity Fields
Great product! Loved using this for my team happy hour last week! Trying to convince them to use a virtual office space now :)
Teik Jun Tan

phillip wang
@teikjun Thanks TJ! Nice meeting you in the space today!
Younghwi Cho
I remember that I saw this epic product somewhere else. We've been also thinking to build this kinda product before but it seems you guys already created super amazing one :D By the way, your PH badge on the website seems linked with a wrong product (https://www.producthunt.com/post...).
Alex Chen
@andrew_cho Hey Andrew, thanks so much for checking out our product, and also pointing that out (oops) we just fixed it! Super interested to hear that you were going to work on something similar! If that does happen, would love to see it, and of course, would love any thoughts on platforms like this in general 🤗
Matthew Slotkin
really nice idea and looks nice. will probably use it more for my personal life than my work life!
phillip wang
@matthew_slotkin Thanks Matthew! We are probably used equally for our "work" use cases as for social--let us know if you have any other feedback!
Nathan Young
Works how you expect. Allows easy dialogue and moving between conversations. One of my top choices for meetup larger than 10.
Alex Chen
@nathanpmyoung Thanks for the feedback and kind words Nathan!
Kumail Jaffer
Thanks Nathan! Hope you've been well since the Online Town days 😊
JP Allen
What a coincidence! I just recently went to a friend's wedding hosted in Gather Town, and I've been singing the product's praises ever since.
Alex Chen
@jpallen Congrats to the newly weds! Thanks for checking us out JP ❤️
