Did you know that up to one-third of Americans are exposed to dangerous levels of noise? Beyond the obvious concerns such as long-term tinnitus or hearing loss, too much noise has recently been implicated as a contributing factor to cardiovascular disease. Getting an understanding of how much noise you're exposed to, plus the tools to share that data with others, is essential for protecting your long-term health. That’s why we created Decibel Meter Ultra – an all-in-one sound level meter, dosimeter and real-time analyzer that lets you measure, record and track sound levels in your environment. Decibel Meter Ultra lets you take accurate sound level readings using industry standard measurement methodologies, selectable A, C and Z frequency weighting curves, fast and slow time-weightings, plus concurrent peak level measurement. You can choose to take measurements using the built-in microphones on your device or connect an external microphone for an even broader dynamic range. With Decibel Meter Ultra, gathering the evidence that you need to take decisive action against nuisance noise is simple. Create detailed acoustic analysis reports that visualise sound levels over time by simply pressing ‘record’, then share the generated report via PDF. In the workplace, you can compare noise levels against industry-mandated safe levels using the built-in dosimeter. Select from default measurement profiles based on published recommendations from NIOSH and OSHA, or if you’re working against a different specification, you can create your own. We can't wait to hear what you think!

Impressive tool! It's got everything I need for a DIY soundproofing project at home. Loving how it's not just a regular meter but also a dosimeter and frequency analyzer. Does it stay accurate over time? And any tips on getting the most out of the frequency analyzer?

@aman_wen great to hear! Each iPhone has some level of factory calibration. This study (https://blogs.cdc.gov/niosh-scie...) by NIOSH found that the built-in mic had a +/-2dB deviation from a reference source. The same study found that you can get this down to +/-1dB by using an externally calibrated mic. And of course you can calibrate the mic using the app and a reference sound level source. For best results with the frequency analyzer, again the built-in mic works really well and the app has fractional octave band analysis with up to twelfth of an octave resolution. Of course, you'll get better results at the low/high end by plugging in something like a UMIK-2, but the built-in gives great results as well.

congratulations on the launch of decibel meter ultra, tristan. it sounds invaluable for both personal use and professional settings where sound management is crucial. i'm particularly interested in the dosimeter feature that compares noise levels against NIOSH and OSHA standards. could you share more about how businesses are adopting your tool for their regulatory compliance and employee safety initiatives?
Tristan Celder
@mashy thanks, Albert! It's too early to get a handle of how businesses are adopting it specifically, but in general, different industries and jurisdictions will adopt a particular noise standard. Be that OSHA's, NIOSH's, or the EU standard. Businesses and employees can then use Decibel Meter Ultra to understand if they're sitting within those guidelines or if they should consider taking further action.
