Hey Product Hunt!
Excited to be here together with my co-founder and friend @sankalpjonna1
💡 Why we built DailyHabits
Over the years, Sankalp and I tried various apps to track our habits and act on them. Inevitably we would go back to pen and paper for its simplicity. That was until last year when I designed a simple habit tracker template on a Google Sheet. While I don't know exactly how many people use it, the habit tracker template page gets 1000+ visits monthly, and I've talked to dozens of people over email and Zoom who loved using the template.
So what clicked? Turns out it was 3 things:
1. the simplicity of viewing the entire month at a glance
2. setting goals instead of streaks, which are more flexible
3. the ease of use of a spreadsheet
We took that and added our own observations:
1. The ability to add notes to reflect on your journey
2. Fully responsive and thus accessible via mobile
👉 DailyHabits works on three principles
1. Habits should be formed for life, until they become like brushing teeth.
2. Goals should be flexible. You don’t need to try and maintain streaks. Just set a realistic and achievable goal and try to achieve it.
3. Make notes as your journey progresses. The purpose is to self-reflect on your success/failure as you try to get better.
✅ Get started for the rest of your life, today
DailyHabits has a 30-day free trial, no credit card required. After that, it's just $19/year or the equivalent of four ☕️s per year!
Please give our app a try and share your feedback - good or bad - with us. We are keen on listening to it all.
And we'll be around to answer any questions.
This is nice! @adityavsc
Couple comments:
- add coaching functionality, lot's of sports and therapy professionals could benefit from a tool like this.
- add challenge mode. Fitness industry does it very well. If you can enable friends to incentivize accountability, you'll produce real value.
- you've unique opportunity to do encouraging emails. Like "congrats on your first 10 days without alcohol", or "great job on going to bed early in past two days, let's make it happen today too!"
@adityavsc@eugenehp Hey Eugene, thanks so much for your feedback!
- We really want to learn more about what you had in mind with coaching functionality. Is it something where coaches can view the habit trackers of all their clients in one place?
- Could you point me to what you had in mind about challenge mode when you said the fitness industry does it well? We really do want to make it easier for people to stick to their habits. We are thinking of a way where you can add friends in the app, and friends can see your habit tracker and you can see theirs.
Can you invest 15 minutes a day for yourself?
15 minutes of exercise a day is not enough to warrant any significant changes in your body in terms of weight loss or muscle gain.
However, it is the perfect amount of time to invest if your goal is to form an unbreakable lifelong habit.
It is like compound interest. You get no short term returns, but if you wait long enough you will see exponential results.
The key is consistency. Do not break your investment in the middle and have patience.
If you exercise for 15 minutes a day for a whole year, it will become second nature to you just like brushing teeth or having a bath.
One should not focus on streaks or unrealistic expectations like working out everyday for hours without break.
A better approach is to take a day off every week or set yourself up with a goal like hitting 25 days a month where you exercise for 15 minutes a day.
Chances of hitting this goal can be increased significantly if you track your habit and get a visual representation of your progress in a given month.
Personally this was the reason I was excited to build DailyHabits with @hipreetam93. However, nothing would be more fulfilling than watching other people reach their goals using this product.
@mrislam Hey Naved, thanks for asking!
- we are trying to be even more simpler :D
- our system is based on flexible goals v/s streaks which are fragile
- we have built-in notes which are used as points of self-reflection in one's journey
As of today, those are our key differences :)
@hipreetam93 Awesome work Preetam, good to hear! Habits and productivity are very important so I'm happy to hear more people are working in this area :)
@vasgo Hey Vas, thanks for your question!
Two reasons:
1 - I personally find DailyHabits significantly more accessible because I can access it from my phone (as the app is fully responsive) when I'm downstairs after my run. I believe this same convenience is desirable to others!
2 - I also found noting down progress (I would do it by adding a comment on a spreadsheet cell) as a tool that later helps with reflection and thinking, which I believe can help more people in becoming better selves.
Would love to hear more questions and feedback from your usage of DailyHabits :)
@eliza.karelina hey Elizaveta, thank you for trying our DailyHabits and for your feedback. We launched with email for the v1 but will absolutely consider adding social sign-ons in the future. Cheers :)
Great tool for tracking habits!
?makers
It would be great if row color will be changing on hover.
It would be great to have emoji picker for the naming habits.
Thanks!
@_btyler_ hey Ben! Thank you for using DailyHabits and for sharing your feedback.
I'll be honest with you - I wanted this feature to exist as well :D. We skipped it in the interest of time but will absolutely add it in the future :)
Cool project! @sankalpjonna1@hipreetam93
Benjamin Franklin used a similar method to track habits)
💡 Have idea! Will be great if you will add a line chart, that will present how I coping with my habits. Maybe the progress of one habit may affect another habit, but with a line chart, it will be more clear.
@hipreetam93 each line is a habit (x coordinate). And Y coordinate, it's sum of success days, when you complete a habit.
For example we have mediation habit:
1. first day: success. Increase value by 1 (sum 1)
2. second day: success. Increase value by 1 (sum 2)
3. third day: failed. Descries value by 1 (sum 1)
etc.
For example if user complete 30 days their habits, we will see smooth growth by Y coordinate.
