With your old browser, you paid to browse the web by viewing ads. Now, Brave welcomes you to the new Internet. One where your time is valued, your personal data is kept private, and you actually get paid for your attention through Brave Rewards.
Brendan Eich (inventor of JavaScript & Co-founder Mozilla) launches a new company and browser called Brave
"It's your device. It's your time.
So make it your Internet. The new Brave browser blocks all the greed and ugliness on the Web that slows you down and invades your privacy. Then we put clean ads back, to fund website owners and Brave users alike. Users can spend their funds to go ad-free on their favorite sites. "
I have a 2009 Macbook Pro and after I downloaded Brave it feels like a new computer because of the increased speed. I tried Brave for the first time a couple years ago, but did not stick with it because of how frequently I use Chrome extensions in my productivity flow. Now that Chrome extensions are supported it is a game changer. I am trying Brave out as my default browser now.
Currently, the only area lacking is the lack of support for Android text messages at www.messages.android.com.
Pros:
fast, import settings & bookmarks from Chrome, supports Chrome extensions
@unnamedteam Good point! It seems this browser was made for improving the efficiency of digital advertising. But I like it. Hope it will grow and new extensions will be added
Already using Brave Browser for almost 2 years now since March 2016 as daily web browser on my laptop. It's improved and getting better in every releases.
Brave also doing great on mobile.
Pros:
Simple, Faster, Easy to Use and Privacy Focused. Block Ads and Trackers and other opt-in blocking options. ++ for Basic Attention Token
This is such a fascinating idea. So much attention has been focussed on the success of the ICO for BAT, but the more intriguing thing is the possibility of levelling out the distribution of wealth and power on the internet.
I love the idea of making the value exchange more direct between websites/publishers and users. The fact that advertisers pay the bills puts pressure on creators and publishers to produce stuff that will sell ads, or help creepy surveillance-based businesses to gather valuable information... to sell more ads. Users just paying for what they value seems a far cleaner kind of transaction.
One of the key details for me is the capacity to set a time at which a visit to a site is registered. It means you can get closer to a situation where users only reward content that is actually fulfilling (what Tristan Harris' might describe as 'time well spent'), rather than clickbait that distracts attention momentarily. The possibilities for customising payment preferences are basically endless: e.g. higher rates for more time; higher rates if you rank the experience highly etc etc.
I'd also be interested to see if Brave eventually brings in all kinds of users (rather than just publishers of things like blogs and videos). A lot of the value generated for sites like Facebook or even Reddit is from posts and comments, not just from published articles, blogs or videos. If user comments and posts are providing value to the platofrm and it's users, it seems fair to share that value.
Really looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Brave was a great find for me as I only started delving into Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies last year. Right after Steemit, this is the next project that excites me in this space.
I'm going to support, recommend and evangelize the use of the Brave Browser , and reduce our dependence on Google.
There's a Reason why Brave Browser Has Hit 4.6 Million Monthly Active Users. Google's bad PR , data Breach and Evil Censorship lately is giving people a reason to Switch. Featured on CoinZodiac's blog: https://coinzodiac.com/brave-bro...
